This year’s 11th annual Knights of Columbus Charity Golf Classic was held on Monday, September 28th at Northampton Valley Country Club. Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, golfers, diners and committee members, we enjoyed another very successful outing, raising over $70,000 for our charity funds.
For the eleventh year in a row, our council joined forces with our brothers of St. John the Evangelist Council to host the Golf Classic. One hundred- fifteen golfers gathered for lunch and at 1:00 PM, everyone teed off at the beautiful links of Northampton Valley. The course was in excellent condition and the scramble format plus numerous “mulligans” gave every foursome a chance to shoot par golf. After a great afternoon on the course the golfers were joined by another 25 Knights, wives and guests for a delicious buffet dinner of beef, chicken and pasta prepared and served by the Northampton catering staff.
Deacon Mike Cibenko led us in prayer before the meal. Tom Rossi of St. John’s was the MC and he started the festivities by inviting all of us to join in the silent auction, the Chinese auction and the 50-50 drawing. The silent auction prizes included dinner for eight at Bonefish Grill, a vacation condo in Ocean City, three- two night stays at the resort at Split Rock, six rounds of golf at area golf courses, Flyers hockey tickets, and much more. The 60 inch flat screen TV raffle was won by Ray Eveland and seven other winners walked off with baskets of cheer.
The Chinese auction of over 20 items included numerous gift certificates at local restaurants.
The 50/50 drawing winner was Tom Parsons, and the foursome of Rev. Sean English, Rev. Bob Gross, Jim Kay and John Chopak took first prize for the lowest score at 12 under par. At the end of the evening the golfers, wives and guests agreed that the annual golf classic was a most enjoyable afternoon and evening of fun, food and fellowship.
Once again, we were blessed with many generous sponsors who made this charitable event a great success. This year, we are grateful to have The Charitable Exchange contribute $30,000. The Tournament Sponsor was Health Web Solutions contributing $5000. Many thanks to all of our major sponsors from $3500 to $600 including John Noto of Allstate Insurance, Jim McCaffrey and McCaffrey’s supermarkets, Grand Knight Bruce Wright of Accupac, Dan and Thelma Pisano of St. Ignatius Aid for Friends, Tom Parsons of W & W Auto Body, The Harvest Group, MFP Realty, the Biggs family, Benefit Watch of Yardley, Shop Rite Supermarket, Haldemann Lexus and the Tallman Family. Over 110 individuals and businesses supported the golf classic. This year’s net profit will be divided evenly between our two councils and will fund the important charitable works of our brotherhood.
The golf committee was chaired by Len Kuchera of St. John’s council, and included, PGK Domenic Licastro , PGK Pat Joy, Anthony Liccione, Rich Havrilla, Rich May of our council and six members of St. John’s council. A total of twenty-two members and wives volunteered their time on the day of the outing.
