What is Battle.net used for? ›

Battle.net is an Internet-based online game, social networking service, digital distribution, and digital rights management platform developed by Blizzard Entertainment.

In October 2023, Microsoft acquired parent company Activision Blizzard, maintaining that the company will continue to operate as a separate business. While part of the larger Microsoft Gaming division, Blizzard Entertainment retains its function as the publisher of games developed by their studios.

The Battle.net Authenticator is the best security feature to keep your Battle.net account safe. Always refuse to share your account information with others, and avoid logging in to your account on someone else's computer.

Recurring Subscription

Subscriptions will automatically recur at your chosen rate (monthly, every three months, or every six months) using your preferred method of payment until paused or canceled.

Cosmetic purchases are a different; costumes, mounts etc, that have no impact on game play. These are fine and are accepted by the majority of gamers, and WoW already has these available for purchase. So, to maintain their revenue, and finance their future expansions they need to make the game financially viable.

We can only provide refunds for purchases made on our own platform. This includes purchases made through the Blizzard Shop, the Battle.net App, or within one of our games. We will typically refund purchases to the method of payment used for the original transaction.

Lawsuit. As a result of a two-year investigation, on July 20, 2021, DFEH filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court. The lawsuit alleges that Activision Blizzard has fostered a "frat boy" culture in which female employees endure regular sexual harassment and experience discrimination and retaliation.

Battle.net is a free online service provided by Blizzard and battle net :P. And just to add on, all Blizzard games over Battle.net are free. So Starcraft, Diablo 1 & 2, and Warcraft 1, 2, and 3 are all free. The only Blizzard game that is pay to play is World of Warcraft, which is NOT over B.net.

Call of Duty® Internet connection, Battle.net® Account, and Battle.net® desktop app required to play. A mobile phone number must be linked to your Battle.net® Account to play Call of Duty®: Warzone.
